Comments Sought on Part D Data Public Use Files

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is in the process of developing several Public Use Files for Medicare Part D data and is seeking public comments on the proposed files. The Public Use Files would be available to members of the public for a fee and could be used for multiple types of research projects, including those that request beneficiary identifiable data. Specifically, CMS notes these supplemental files are being developed to add back valuable information that would otherwise be lost through the encryption of identifiers.

To impact the design of these new Public Use Files, please submit your comments to ResDAC via email, indicating the files for which you're providing comments (e.g., PUF File 1 or PUF File 2A, etc.). If you are offering a suggestion for a new file, please indicate so and describe the research this file could support. There is no deadline on comments, but CMS would prefer to receive comments by September 1.

Please contact Emily Holubowich, Director of Government Relations with questions. You may also visit the ResDAC Web site for more information.
