Work on FY 2008 Funding Continues
The president has signed a stopgap funding bill to keep the government running through November 16 while Congress continues work on the FY 2008 appropriations bills. The House has passed its Labor-HHS bill, and the Senate plans to vote on its version the week of October 15. According to Senate Appropriations Committee staff, the Senate "plans to conference the bill quickly and get it to the President as soon as possible."
Since the President has vowed to veto any domestic spending bills that exceed his request, it's likely that the Labor-HHS bill once vetoed will be included in a "mini-bus" of other bills wrapped up with the Military Construction-VA spending bill (one of the only bills that appear veto-proof).
